CVMFS

CernVM-FS is a POSIX read-only File System that enables unprivileged and secure mounting of various repositories to client with the help of an additional kernel module or filesystem FUSE. Files and directories are therefore hosted on standard web servers and mounted in the universal namespace /cvmfs. It is designed to use the HTTP standard for distribution, through which it exchanges data and metadata, while using cryptography (cryptographic hash) to ensure authentication and connection integrity. It works on the user's request and the obtained data is then stored in a local "cache".

Vega allows users to access various repositories that contain a set of versions pre-prepared or packaged software, modules, and image containers.

Repositories are available through modules located at $PATH: /cvmfs
